Applications are invited for the post of Research Assistant in SPRINT-TB (Singapore Programme of Research Investigating New Approaches for Treatment of Tuberculosis) at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Description
Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the world's most threatening infectious diseases with an estimated 9 million new cases and 1.5 million deaths per year. It is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is becoming increasingly resistant to current drugs, thereby posing a major public health problem in Asia and worldwide. SPRINT-TB research is focused on creating improved, more efficient treatments for TB.
This position entails providing general research support and performing laboratory studies of TB with emphasis on TB animal models and other work in the NUS BSL-3 laboratory.
The successful applicant will receive tailored training to ensure maintenance of the high NUS safety standards thereby developing into a strong member of our laboratory team and achieving both excellence in research and safety.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Microbiology or related life science / medical field
- Good understanding of scientific methods and research techniques
- Self- motivation, communication skills, ability to work in a team and independently, multitasking
- Skills in standard microbiological techniques
- Work experience in BSL-2 environment (at least 1.5 years)
- Experience and/or willingness to work with small laboratory animals
- Experience in BSL-3 environment (advantageous, but not essential)
